It is very common to think that “resting” and “taking it easy” will make your back pain and sciatica somehow magically go away on its own. I’m here to tell you that most times this is far from the truth. Typically, low back pain back pain is the resultant of years and years of improper posture, lifting mechanics, and weakness that eventually leads to pain and discomfort. 

Most people fall into the trap of going to their MD or even a “low back specialist” which X-rays and MRIs are performed that typically show “degenerative disc disease” or a “herniated disc”. These findings then lead the MD to conclude that your pain is directly correlated to the findings from the diagnostic imaging. The TRUTH is that after age 50 almost EVERYONE will have degenerative disc disease (or loss of space between vertebrae) and many people walk around with a “herniated disc” and are asymptomatic. To be 100% honest with you more than 70% of “herniated discs” actually resolve themselves.

Your MD prescribes you pain medication and/or injections and tells you to come back in 3 months. You may get temporary relief but many times the pain either returns, doesn’t get any better, or in most cases gets worse.
