Staying Active In The Cold Weather

Staying Active

Over and over again, we hear from people that come to ProActive Physical Therapy and Wellness how difficult it is to stay motivated during the winter months…

The winter months can be an easy time to make excuses and end up in hibernation on your couch, under a blanket bingeing the most popular show rather than staying committed to your active and healthy lifestyle.

It’s that relatively short time period that people often tend to gain a few pounds and frankly set the pace for the rest of the year until the next winter rolls around.

So how do you get past the frigid temps and get up and moving so you can continue to MAINTAIN your active and healthy lifestyle?

ProActive Physical Therapy and Wellness wants to share with you a few tips on staying active in the cold weather so you can start your year off strong and make it a healthy lifestyle for the rest of the year!

Try A Fitness Class

This seems pretty self-explanatory, HOWEVER there are a couple of reasons why this is such a great idea. Having a scheduled class or fitness session holds you accountable to actually get up and go to the class. Adding a class into your routine not only helps you plan your schedule more efficiently, if you’re paying for that service, it’ll encourage you even more to stay committed to your investment.

Don’t know where to start?

We’ve got you covered here too!

Here at ProActive Physical Therapy and Wellness, we encourage you to train with us, because we have found holding you accountable will help eliminate that lack of time because now you’re not trying to do this on your own! You’re with somebody willing to help guide you every step of the way.  Allow our head trainer to take on the years of experience by guiding you through tailored work outs specific to your goals and needs, helping you track progress that will not only be felt by the individual, but also proof on paper that changes are being made in the right direction.

We offer a number of different services that strictly cater to each individual journey. These services include:

  • 1-On-1 Personal Training
  • Our Doctor Guided ProActivate Class
  • A Nutrition Mentor

Do Some Chores

When bad weather keeps you from going outside, look for ways to be physically active indoors. Housework such as vacuuming, sweeping, and cleaning all count towards your physical activity goals. And you’ll knock out some items on your to-do list while gaining health benefits. Walking or running up and down stairs in your home can be a great workout, too.

Go Outside When You Get A Chance

Especially here in the midwest, not all winter days are miserable or unbearable. Take advantage of those random days the temps get into the 50s or sometimes 60s! Not only is it great for your body to get some exercise during your day, but getting out and soaking up some rays and getting fresh air also helps you relieve stress.

Keep Your Healthy Routine

The biggest reason your couch can seem so tempting during the winter months is because of lack of energy. The cold weather months cause people to feel sluggish and somewhat lethargic. To get ahead of this, try your best to continue to get at least 7-9 hours of sleep each night and maintain a healthy diet regimen. The more energized you feel, the better odds you’ll have staying active.

Find A Friend

As individuals, we can achieve great things. But if we have a partner or even a team, we can achieve incredible things! Find a friend or family member that you know have been thinking about similar goals or maybe they’ve had success with the same goals and you need their guidance for your own success. Not only is it great to know you’re not alone in the journey, but you get to hold each other accountable and achieve incredible things!

As we’ve discussed above, staying active in the cold weather can be very difficult but not impossible! ProActive Physical Therapy and Wellness wants to see you succeed in not only your goals but overall living your best self in an active and healthy lifestyle.

What Do I Do If I’m Struggling With Staying Active?

Would You Like To See A Physical Therapist For Free?

We realize some people want more than just some free health tips… That’s why we offer expert advice about the worry and frustration of life changes  – for FREE, in under 45 minutes.

We call this a Discovery Visit.

Here are just a few of the things you will learn in one of our free Discovery Visit sessions…

  • What is the underlying cause of your struggle? (hopefully nothing too serious!)
  • Roughly, how long will it take to fix my problem?
  • What to do to help – which doesn’t include painkillers, injections or surgery etc.
  • What other, natural, drug-free methods are there to speed up recovery alongside treatment?

Our Discovery Visits are great for anyone that may be “unsure” if physical therapy is right for them, and they give you the opportunity to ask questions and see for yourself if we can help you.

We’ve got 9 Discovery Visits available this week. If you would like one of our Discovery Visits, please get in touch with the clinic using the contact details included below, and mention to our ProActive who answers the phone that you would like to see a physical therapist for free.

We’re Here To Help…

If you’re ready to move forward and would like to talk to us about getting some help, or some specialist advice, remember we are always here to help you…. and we’re offering you the chance to have your first session with a physical therapist for FREE.

If you would like to get one of our limited Discovery Visit slots, please click here to complete our inquiry form or CALL us on 502.512.2165

P.S. Do you know someone with aches and pains and they’re not sure why or where it’s coming from?

Who do you know that is always telling you about their aches and pains? We would love to help them live a pain-free life too.

That person could be someone who you live with, work with, or an extended friend or family member, who is maybe suffering with some kind of ache or pain that we can fix.
